Robbie Cheek

Robbie Cheek is a lifelong resident of Camden County seeking the seat for the Camden County Board of Commissioners for District 1. Robbie can trace his family roots back many generations in Camden County. With his deep roots and desire to improve a county he loves, Robbie is dedicated to the future of Camden County and will diligently work toward making Camden County a premier community for all citizens, present and future.
Robbie has been married to his wife Theresa for nearly 41 years. They have two daughters, two sons-in-law and two grandsons. Robbie and Theresa live in Waverly. Theresa is a mostly retired Occupational Therapist and Robbie is currently working part time as a civil engineering consultant with ESG Engineering. Robbie is a 1979 graduate of Camden County High School in St. Marys. As many young men and women experience at that time in life, he was uncertain of about what the future would hold. Subsequently, he enlisted in the US Navy and was fortunate enough to be assigned to Special Warfare Group 1, Special Boat Unit 12 in Coronado, California. After his tour with SBU-12, he pursued a degree in Civil Engineering from Southern Technical Institute in Marietta, Georgia (currently Kennesaw State University). He graduated in 1987 and was licensed as a Professional Civil Engineer in 1993. |
After graduation from college, he and Theresa returned to Camden County to raise their children around family and build a life in a community they both love. Robbie has been fortunate to have a great 36-year career in the civil engineering and development sector in the immediate area and surrounding counties. His career has included roles as an engineering consultant for city, county and private development clients, Camden County staff engineer for 3 years (1990-1993), construction manager, Camden County Planning Commission member and land manager.
Robbie is community oriented. He has strived to assist in any way possible to better the community. He and Theresa are members of First Baptist Church Kingsland. He has been involved in community activities including Rotary, Georgia Baptist Convention Disaster Relief, local and foreign missions and Kairos Prison Ministry at Smith State Prison. As a graduate of Leadership Camden in 2006 and Leadership Southeast Georgia in 2016, Robbie has a grasp of how Camden County blends internally and externally with other communities. Robbie’s statement is “Knows the Past, Improving the Future”. He has been involved, directly or indirectly, in local and state issues most of his adult life. He has been involved with several County departments including Public Works, Purchasing, Planning and Development and the County Administrator’s office. His business background gives him knowledge of human resources, finance, risk management and budgets. He also has worked with state and local agencies such as the Georgia Department of Transportation, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, GEMA, FEMA and Regional Commissions.
With his deep roots and experience, he has the knowledge to move Camden County forward while recognizing the local, close-knit community feel. By no means does he imply he has all the answers. But, Robbie will use his knowledge to make beneficial decisions for all of Camden County.
Robbie understands Camden County is a growing community. Leadership needs to be sensitive to our local values while still providing opportunities for our kids, grandkids and future generations to live and thrive in the community. In that, Robbie is prepared to listen to the community to better understand the desires and needs of every individual.
